⌘ + B doesn’t work while you’re typing in a text box, such as the message box.
In the command menu

In a chat
There’s no shortcut to stop a reply. Clear the message box, then click the stop button (■) in the composer. While there’s text in the box, the same button queues your message instead.
Answering a coworker’s question
When a coworker asks you a question in a card above the composer, these keys work as long as the message box or another text box isn’t focused. If they don’t respond, click the card first:
When you type an answer yourself (if more questions follow, “send” moves you to the next one):
