# AI coworkers

> What an AI coworker is, what it can do, and how its page in Vybe is organized

An AI coworker is a teammate your team creates in Vybe. It has a name, an avatar and a role, follows standing instructions you write, remembers what it learns, and uses the tools you connect. You message it in Slack, email it, invite it to meetings, or chat with it in Vybe, and it does the work.

A sales operations coworker might post a pipeline summary in #sales every Monday. A support coworker might triage new tickets as they arrive and draft replies. Each coworker is set up once and then works alongside your team.

## What makes up a coworker

| Part | What it is | Where you manage it |
| - | - | - |
| Profile | Name, avatar, role and a short description | **Overview → Information** |
| Instructions | AGENTS.md: its role, personality and rules | **Overview → Capabilities → Edit AGENTS.md** |
| Knowledge | Notes, skills and files it remembers and uses | **Knowledge** |
| Capabilities | Which tools it may use, and how much access each gets | **Overview → Capabilities** |
| Connections | The integrations, MCP servers, custom APIs and databases it can use | **Connections** |
| Automations | Scheduled tasks and triggers it runs on its own | **Automations** |
| Sharing | Who can talk to it and who manages it | **Overview → Sharing** |

## Where coworkers work

* **Slack.** Each coworker gets its own Slack app, with its own name and avatar. Send it a direct message, or @mention it in a channel it has joined. See [Slack](https://docs.vybe.build/channels/slack.md).
* **Email.** Each coworker gets its own email address. See [Email](https://docs.vybe.build/channels/email.md).
* **Meetings.** A coworker can join video calls, record them and keep the transcript. See [Meetings](https://docs.vybe.build/channels/meetings.md).
* **Vybe.** Every coworker has a **Chats** section in the web app. See [Chat with a coworker](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/chatting.md).
* **LinkedIn and WhatsApp (Beta).** A coworker can work through your own LinkedIn or WhatsApp account once you connect it and give the coworker access. See [LinkedIn and WhatsApp](https://docs.vybe.build/channels/linkedin-and-whatsapp.md).

## What a coworker can do

What a coworker can actually use depends on its [capabilities](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/capabilities.md) and the [connections](https://docs.vybe.build/connections/overview.md) you give it access to.

| Area | Examples |
| - | - |
| Web | Search the web, read specific pages, and use a real browser to open pages, click, type and take screenshots |
| Communication | Send, read and search Slack messages, react, and create channels and canvases. Send, reply to and forward email. Create and update calendar events and respond to invites. Join meetings and read transcripts. |
| Data and documents | Run SQL on your databases, parse and extract data from documents, edit documents, generate images, and look up people and companies |
| Apps | Build Vybe apps, change their code, and call the APIs of apps you link to it |
| Its own computer | Run commands and scripts in a private workspace, work through large files, and convert documents. Files it saves there stay between tasks and show up in **Knowledge → Files**. |
| Memory | Save notes about your team and its work, and follow skills: reusable procedures for specific tasks |
| Integrations | Use your connected tools, MCP servers and custom APIs, and ask you to connect a tool or grant access when it needs one |
| Automations | Set up scheduled tasks and triggers when you ask, and schedule follow-up checks |
| Your organization | Look up people in your organization, contact other coworkers, create new coworkers, and update its own name and avatar |
| Artifacts | Publish interactive reports, dashboards, diagrams and calculators |

When a coworker uses a tool, you see it as a step in the conversation, such as "Searched the web" or "Sent email".

## The coworker page

Open a coworker from the sidebar or from the **AI coworkers** page. The top bar shows its avatar, name and role, a **Search agent settings…** box to jump straight to any setting, and a Slack button. The button reads **Message in Slack** once the coworker is in Slack, or **Connect Slack** / **Finish Slack setup** if it isn't yet.

The page is split into sections, listed under the coworker in the sidebar:

| Section | What's there | Learn more |
| - | - | - |
| **Overview** | Four tabs: **Information**, **Sharing**, **Apps** and **Capabilities** | See below |
| **Chats** | Channels and threads where you chat with the coworker in Vybe | [Chat with a coworker](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/chatting.md) |
| **Knowledge** | **Notes** (including AGENTS.md), **Skills** and **Files** | [Knowledge](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/knowledge.md) |
| **Connections** | **Integrations**, **MCP** and **Advanced** tabs, where you choose which connections it can use | [Capabilities](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/capabilities.md#give-a-coworker-access-to-connections) |
| **Automations** | **Scheduled tasks** and **Triggers** | [Automations](https://docs.vybe.build/automations/overview.md) |
| **Usage & Activity** | **Usage**, with an optional monthly usage limit, and **Activity**, the history of its runs | [Usage and activity](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/usage-and-activity.md) |
| **Artifacts** | Interactive pages the coworker has published | [Artifacts](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/artifacts.md) |
| **Browser** | **Live view** of the coworker's browser, and **Preferences** | [Capabilities](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/capabilities.md#browser-calendar-email-and-meetings) |
| **Calendar** | The coworker's calendar, and **Preferences** | [Meetings](https://docs.vybe.build/channels/meetings.md) |
| **Email** | **Inbox**, **Sent** and **Preferences** | [Email](https://docs.vybe.build/channels/email.md) |
| **Meetings & transcripts** | Meetings it joined, recordings and transcripts, and **Preferences** | [Meetings](https://docs.vybe.build/channels/meetings.md) |

**Browser**, **Calendar**, **Email** and **Meetings & transcripts** only appear while that capability is turned on. If you open one that's turned off, you see "This capability is turned off." with a button to its preferences.

### Overview tabs

* **Information.** Click the name, role or description to edit them. The description can be up to 500 characters. The **Coworker actions** menu (**…**) next to the name has **Duplicate** and **Archive**. The **Recent activity** card shows the coworker's latest runs, with **View activity** for the full list. The **Get in touch** card shows its Slack status, its email address and **Calendar & meetings**.
* **Sharing.** Who can talk to the coworker, who can manage it, and how it behaves in Slack. See [Sharing and access](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/sharing-and-access.md).
* **Apps.** Under **Access to Apps**, switch on the Vybe apps this coworker can work with. See [Apps](https://docs.vybe.build/apps/overview.md).
* **Capabilities.** The model setting, AGENTS.md, and the tools the coworker may use. See [Capabilities](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/capabilities.md) and [Instructions](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/instructions.md).

## The sidebar and pinning

* **New AI coworker** at the top of the sidebar opens the create dialog. See [Create a coworker](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/creating-coworkers.md).
* Your coworkers are listed under **AI coworkers**. To keep the ones you use most at the top, hover a coworker and click the pin icon. Pinned coworkers move to a **Pinned** section. Pinning only changes your own sidebar.
* Expand a coworker to see its sections. Drag a section to reorder them. Your order applies to every coworker, and only for you.
* The **AI coworkers** page lists every coworker you can access, in **Gallery view** or **Table view**. Filter by **Active**, **Created by me** or **Archived**. Pinned coworkers appear at the top, and each card's **…** menu has **Pin**, **Duplicate** and **Archive**.
