# Create an AI coworker

> Create a coworker from scratch or from a ready-made one, and duplicate, archive or delete coworkers

You can create an AI coworker from scratch in a few seconds, start from a ready-made coworker in the gallery, or ask an existing coworker to create one for you. Owners, Admins and Editors can create coworkers.

## Create a coworker from scratch

**1. Open the dialog**

Click **New AI coworker** at the top of the sidebar, or on the **AI coworkers** page.

**2. Pick a name and avatar**

Vybe suggests a name and an avatar. Click the name to change it (up to 100 characters), or click the shuffle button (**Shuffle name and avatar**) for a new suggestion.

**3. Add a role**

Under the name, type the coworker's role, such as "Sales operations" or "Recruiting coordinator" (up to 200 characters). If you leave it empty, the coworker shows as "AI coworker".

**4. Edit the avatar (optional)**

Click the avatar (**Edit avatar**). On the **AI coworker** tab, pick a shape and a color. On the **Upload** tab, upload your own image under 5 MB. **Reset avatar** brings back the default.

**5. Choose who can use it**

Pick an access level: **Anyone can talk to** *name* (the default), **Specific people**, or **You only**. You can change this later. See [Sharing and access](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/sharing-and-access.md).

**6. Click Add to Slack**

Vybe creates the coworker and opens its **Overview**.

### What happens next

* **If your organization has connected Vybe to Slack**, the coworker joins your Slack workspace right away and sends you a direct message to get started.
* **If it hasn't**, the coworker is still created. The top bar on its page shows **Connect Slack**. Only Owners and Admins can connect Vybe to Slack; if you're not one, ask an Owner or Admin. Until then, you can chat with the coworker in its **Chats** section. See [Slack](https://docs.vybe.build/channels/slack.md).

Every new coworker also gets its own email address, default instructions (AGENTS.md), and **Auto** model selection.

> [!TIP]
>
> Next, tell your coworker what it's for. Edit its [AGENTS.md](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/instructions.md), or just message it with what you need.

## Your first coworker

When you sign up and create a new organization, Vybe creates a first coworker for you named **Vybe**, with the role **Agent manager**. You then add it to Slack with **Add to Slack** and choose which channels to invite it to, or skip that step.

In Slack, Vybe sends you a direct message and asks **Which department can I help with?** Pick a department (Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, HR, Data, Customer Success, or type your own under Other), and Vybe creates a coworker for that department or points you to one that already exists. The Vybe coworker itself doesn't appear in your **AI coworkers** list. See [Slack](https://docs.vybe.build/channels/slack.md) for the full setup.

## Start from a ready-made coworker

The gallery at [vybe.build/gallery](https://www.vybe.build/gallery) has ready-made coworkers for common jobs, built and curated by the Vybe team.

**1. Pick a coworker**

Browse the gallery and choose a coworker. Sign in to Vybe if you're asked to.

**2. Personalize it**

Vybe opens **Personalize your agent**, with the coworker's name, role and avatar filled in. Change anything you like and choose who can use it.

**3. Click Add to Slack**

Vybe creates your copy in your organization.

Vybe copies the following into your organization:

| What's copied | Details |
| - | - |
| Instructions | The coworker's AGENTS.md |
| Skills | Its reusable procedures |
| Scheduled tasks | Copied **turned off**. Review them in **Automations → Scheduled tasks** and turn on the ones you want. |
| Apps | Each app that comes with the coworker is copied into your organization as its own app |

Connections aren't copied. Connect your own tools and give the coworker access to them. See [Connections](https://docs.vybe.build/connections/overview.md).

## Ask a coworker to create one

A coworker can create another coworker for you from a chat in Vybe or from Slack:

> Create a coworker for our recruiting team. It should screen inbound candidates and keep our hiring tracker up to date.

You need permission to create coworkers yourself, and you become the new coworker's owner. You'll see "Created *name*" in the conversation, with a **Talk to** *name* card. If Vybe is connected to Slack, the new coworker joins Slack and messages you. If it isn't, use the card to finish setting up the coworker and add it to Slack.

## Duplicate, archive, restore and delete

Find these actions in the **Coworker actions** menu (**…**) on **Overview → Information**, or in the **…** menu on a coworker's card or row on the **AI coworkers** page. To see archived coworkers, set the filter on the **AI coworkers** page to **Archived**.

| Action | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Duplicate** | Creates a new coworker from this one. Type a name for the copy. Its role, avatar, description, AGENTS.md, skills and scheduled tasks are copied, with scheduled tasks turned off. Apps linked to the original are linked to the copy too (shared, not copied). Notes, files, chats and connection access aren't copied. |
| **Archive** | Moves the coworker to your archived coworkers. Its scheduled tasks stop, its integration triggers pause, and its Slack name changes to "(Archived) *name*". You can restore it later. |
| **Restore** | Available on archived coworkers. Moves the coworker back to the active list, restores its Slack name, and starts its scheduled tasks and triggers again. |
| **Delete permanently** | Available on archived coworkers only. Type the coworker's name to confirm, then click **Delete Agent**. This deletes the coworker and all its data, including its Slack app. It can't be undone. |

Like creating, duplicating is available to Owners, Admins and Editors. Archiving and deleting are part of managing a coworker, which is up to its owner and admins. See [Sharing and access](https://docs.vybe.build/coworkers/sharing-and-access.md).

> [!WARNING]
>
> Deleting a coworker can't be undone. If you might need it again, archive it instead.
