# Version history

> Vybe saves a checkpoint of your app's code after each AI change, so you can restore an earlier version

Vybe saves a checkpoint of your app's code every time the AI changes it. If a change breaks something or isn't what you wanted, restore the checkpoint from before it, right from the chat.

## How checkpoints work

When an AI reply changes code, it ends with a line that reads "Your progress has been saved." and a **Restore** button. That line is the checkpoint: a snapshot of all the app's code at that moment.

Checkpoints are automatic. Replies that don't change code, such as answers in **Ask** mode, don't create one. Neither do your own saves in the **Code** tab.

## Restore a checkpoint

**1. Find the checkpoint**

Scroll up the conversation to the last reply where the app worked the way you wanted.

**2. Click Restore**

Vybe opens **Restore this backup?**: "This will revert files to the selected checkpoint and delete all chat messages from that checkpoint to now for this thread. This cannot be undone." Under **Your messages that will be deleted**, it lists the messages you sent after that point.

**3. Click Confirm restore**

You see "Backup restored" and the editor reloads. The checkpoint line now reads "Your progress has been restored." with a **Restore again** button.

> [!WARNING]
>
> A restore can't be undone. The messages after the checkpoint are deleted from the conversation for good. Check the list in the dialog before you confirm.

## What a restore changes

| Restored | Not restored |
| - | - |
| All of the app's code goes back to the checkpoint. Files added since are removed, and files deleted since come back. | **The database.** Tables and data the AI created or changed after the checkpoint stay as they are. |
| This applies to every code change made after the checkpoint, wherever it came from: other conversations, an AI coworker, or your own saves in the **Code** tab. | **The published app.** Visitors keep seeing the last version you published. |
| Messages after the checkpoint in this conversation are deleted. | **Other conversations.** Their messages stay, even though their code changes are undone. |

If the restored code expects a different database structure, ask the AI to bring the database in line:

> I restored an earlier version. Check the database schema against the code and fix any mismatches.

## Undo a publish

There's no one-click rollback for a published app. To put an earlier version live:

1. Restore the checkpoint you want.
2. Check the preview.
3. Publish again. See [Publishing](https://docs.vybe.build/apps/publishing.md).

## Tips

* **Restore early.** If you spot a problem, restore before asking for more changes on top of it.
* **Build in small steps.** One change per prompt gives you a checkpoint for each change, so you can undo exactly the one that went wrong.
* **Republish after restoring** if the app is live, so the published version matches your code.
