# Apps overview

> Internal web apps with their own database, built by AI and shared with your team

A Vybe app is a full-stack internal web app, with pages, server code and its own database, that AI builds from your descriptions. Build an app when a chat reply isn't enough: a pipeline dashboard your team opens every morning, a form to request and approve purchases, or a tracker that keeps its own records.

## What an app includes

Every app comes with:

* **Code**: a Next.js project that the AI writes and you can read and edit. See [Working with code](https://docs.vybe.build/apps/working-with-code.md).
* **A database**: its own PostgreSQL database, which the AI designs and manages. See [App data](https://docs.vybe.build/apps/data.md).
* **A live preview**: a development copy of the app that updates as the AI works. See [The app editor](https://docs.vybe.build/apps/editor.md).
* **Background jobs**: scheduled and background work that runs without anyone opening the app. See [Background jobs](https://docs.vybe.build/apps/background-jobs.md).
* **A private URL**: `https://<app-slug>-<org-slug>.vybe.build`. Only signed-in people in your organization, and guests you share it with, can open it. See [Publishing](https://docs.vybe.build/apps/publishing.md) and [Access and sharing](https://docs.vybe.build/apps/access-and-sharing.md).
* **Version history**: a checkpoint after each AI change, so you can go back. See [Version history](https://docs.vybe.build/apps/version-history.md).

Apps can also use your organization's [connections](https://docs.vybe.build/connections/overview.md): integrations, custom APIs, data queries and databases.

## Apps and AI coworkers

Apps and AI coworkers work together in three ways:

* **Coworkers can build apps.** Ask a coworker in Slack or in its **Chats** to build an app. It creates the app and writes the code. See [Creating apps](https://docs.vybe.build/apps/creating-apps.md).
* **Coworkers can work on linked apps.** Link an app to a coworker on the coworker's **Overview → Apps** tab, under **Access to Apps**. A linked coworker can change the app's code, read its database, call its API and publish it. An app a coworker creates is linked to that coworker automatically.
* **Apps can call coworkers.** An app's server code can ask a linked coworker for a judgment, such as scoring a lead, triaging a ticket or summarizing a document, and get structured data back. The coworker runs with the signed-in user's access, and each call uses credits. Once a coworker is linked, ask the AI in the app editor to add the feature.

## The Apps page

Open **Apps** in the sidebar to see your organization's apps.

* Switch between **Gallery view** and **Table view**. Vybe remembers your choice.
* Filter by **Active**, **Created by me** or **Archived**.
* Click **Create App** to start a new app. You only see this button if your role can create apps.

Each card shows the app's icon and name, its URL once it's published, and an icon for its access level. Hover over the icon to see who has access, for example "Only people in your organization have access".

Clicking a card opens the app editor if you can edit the app. Otherwise it opens the published app in a new tab. Viewers and Guests only see apps that have been published at least once.

Table view shows the same apps with these columns: **Name**, **Published**, **Edited**, **Created by**, **Access**, **Pinned** and **Actions**.

### Pin, archive and delete

Open the **…** menu on an app card:

| Action | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Pin** / **Unpin** | Moves the app into a pinned group at the top of the page. Pins are personal, so other people don't see yours. |
| **Archive app** | Moves the app to your archived apps. If the app is published, the dialog warns: "This app is currently published. Archiving will un-publish it." An archived app can't be opened in the editor or published. |
| **Restore** | Shown on archived apps. Moves the app back to your active apps. |
| **Delete permanently** | Shown on archived apps. Deletes the app and all its data, including its database. You type the app name to confirm. |

> [!WARNING]
>
> Deleting an app can't be undone. If you might need the app again, archive it instead.

## Who can build and who can use apps

What you can do with apps depends on your organization role:

| Role | What they can do |
| - | - |
| **Owner**, **Admin**, **Editor** | Create apps. Open the editor, change, publish, archive and delete the apps they have edit access to. |
| **Viewer** | Open published apps that are shared with them. |
| **Guest** | Open only the apps or pages that are explicitly shared with them. |

Each app also has its own access level: **Anyone in the organization**, **Specific people** or **You only**. For an app limited to specific people, only its creator and the people given **Editor** access can edit it. See [Access and sharing](https://docs.vybe.build/apps/access-and-sharing.md) and [Members and roles](https://docs.vybe.build/organization/members-and-roles.md).

## Hide apps from the sidebar

Some organizations use Vybe mainly through Slack and don't want everyone to see the builder pages. The setting **AI coworkers and apps** under **Settings → Organization → General** ("Show AI coworkers and apps in the sidebar for everyone in this organization") controls this. When it's off, the sidebar hides **AI coworkers**, **Apps** and the coworker list for everyone in the organization. It's on by default.
